What is Systema?
Systema is the Russian word for “The System” and is a martial art combining both body and mind. Systema doesn’t stick to out-dated techniques, just in the name of tradition, but is constantly evolving relying on the simple principles of breathing, movement, relaxation and correct body structure. What will I learn training at Melbourne Systema?
From the first lesson you will effective self-defense that you can immediately use. We give you the opportunity to challenge yourself, grow, and strengthen your mind, body and spirit.
Over the next few lessons you will learn:
- How to perform powerful strikes using all parts of the body
- Unique Russian exercises to improve your balance, movement and co-ordination
- How to control the distance between you and anyone else
- Comprehensive breathing methods to control fear and panic and how to better cope with stress
What are the training requirements at Melbouren Systema?
Training is open to anyone 16 years of age and older. In Systema maturity, attentiveness, and a desire to work are some of the characteristics necessary to learn. Basic courteousness and communication with training partners is essential in fostering an enjoyable and safe training environment for all.
What should I wear?
Anything suitably comfortable. For the most part students wear a t-shirt and track suit bottom. There is no set uniform.
How many times a week should I train?
It really depends on your schedule. Most of our students train 2-3 times per week.
Am I fit enough to do martial arts?
We say that if you can lift yourself out of bed, you are fit enough to train. If you have an existing injury there is no pressure to have to do or keep up with any of the exercises that might cause you discomfort. You are in charge of your training. As your fitness increases you can up the intensity of your training. We are committed to improving your health and welbeing over the long term.
How much does it cost?
